Children with learning disabilities have difficulty processing information in one or more areas of learning. They may have problems getting information into the brain with sound input or with visual input. Then they may have difficulty integrating information once it is received in the brain and inhibit the ability to sequence information, infer meaning, or organize information. Students may also have difficulty getting information out of the brain. If you see developmental delays in speech or motor skills, you may wonder if your child has a learning disability that will affect his academic performance. The article lists specific signs to look for in preschool and elementary students. If you suspect that your child may have a disability, there are tests that can be taken to evaluate whether your child would qualify for services or special instruction.
