Study strategies are a gateway to a student’s success. The first step to help your child with test taking is to understand why and where their struggles are. In order to do well, you child must know what to study. The teacher is often is willing to provide a study guide or use key words to emphasize what is important. Textbooks are excellent resources if you review and break apart information. In order for your child to remember information, the information needs to be filed away in his or her brain in an organized way. Crazy phrases, acronyms, pictures, and word associations are all great memory strategies. Example checklists and test taking strategies are listed throughout the article.
